Stopped by a local farmers market today after work and spoke with a lady who recommended I try Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit. This immediately struck my attention as I like trying new things. She informed me it had a mildly sweet and sour flavor resembling an unripened kiwi. I must agree with her it did.
She did not tell me that the seeds inside are very hard and impossible to bite down on. Luckily, I read about the fruit online before preparing it. If you’d like you can remove the seeds and grind them later to make flour out of them.
After speaking with her about the best way to prepare this. She recommended peeling the fruit, slice it fairly thin, sprinkle some of her recently made goat cheese, and drizzle some honey over the top.
Prickly Pear Cactus with Goat Cheese and Honey
1/2 Cup Crumbled Goat Cheese
6 Pear Cactus Fruits
1 tbsp Honey
Slice fruit half an inch thick layer on plate.
Sprinkle goat cheese evenly over the sliced fruit.
Drizzle honey evenly on top.
